The vice president of the German online casino association DOCV, Simon Priglinger-Zimader, criticized the latest data from the regulator GGL regarding the share of the ‘black market’ in Germany. In his opinion, the presented figures are too conservative and do not reflect the real situation.
He noted that the GGL study may have been distorted due to a non-representative sample and the so-called ‘recall bias’, where respondents inaccurately assess their behavior.
According to the published data, the channeling rate — that is, the share of players using licensed platforms — is about 50%. However, DOCV believes that the actual share of the illegal market may be significantly higher.
German hacker Lilith Wittmann has claimed responsibility for the Malta Gaming Authority data leak, sparking a strong reaction in the industry.
GiG confirmed that it is in a strong position for aggressive market share capture after returning to profitability.
