Analysis of the Theft Situation at BetCity: Who is to Blame?

Recently, there was news that an employee of BetCity credited €500k to the accounts of his friends.

I am more interested in what his manager, the security service, and the CFO were doing in this situation?

• Head of Retention — the first level of control for this employee. He did not notice any unusual activity from his subordinate. This is either a complete unwillingness to work or a lack of competence. In both cases, the manager is useless to the company.
• Analysts monitor anomalies daily, including the Bonus Rate. They also did not notice any problems.
• Security Service
  If one manager can steal money for a long time and the systems do not see it, then there is no protection. The job of the security service is to create conditions where theft is impossible. If an employee was able to bypass control, it means that this control exists only in reports. The head of security must be held accountable for allowing this to happen. According to the court’s decision, the security service is not to blame, as the employee deliberately circumvented the security systems.
• Chief Operating Officer
  This person creates processes and rules in the company. If the business process allows one person to do this alone, then what is the purpose of such rules and the employee?
• Chief Financial Officer. This is the most important person controlling financial flows. Agreed, for BetCity +/- €500k — the margin of error.
