Belgium strengthens gambling controls and introduces limits for players

Belgian Gambling Commission (KSC) endorsed a draft law aimed at tightening regulation and increasing market transparency. The document strengthens the regulator's powers and introduces new measures to protect players.

The main provisions of the bill are:

• The maximum weekly deposit per platform is limited to €200.
• Playing on credit is prohibited.
• Limits are introduced on the number of slot machines in establishments and the number of licenses for land-based betting shops.
• The national self-exclusion system is expanding.

The KSC opposed a complete ban on credit cards but agreed to partial reform in this area. The Commission stated that it sought to avoid overly restrictive restrictions and to preserve supervisory flexibility.

The changes continue the course of tightening the Belgian gambling legislation, which began last year, when a complete ban on gambling advertising in sports clubs and stadiums was introduced.
