In India, the financial intelligence unit FIU-IND and the GST intelligence (DGGI) are investigating the activities of an unnamed online gambling syndicate in the state of Telangana. According to investigation materials, approximately $2.46 billion has passed through 177 identified shell companies of the syndicate so far.
According to DGGI, the investigation has revealed for the first time the role of payment aggregators, gateways, and banks in the functioning of an international iGaming network. These entities received about 1% in transaction service fees, connecting counterparties without mandatory checks, audits, and risk monitoring. Three fictitious intermediaries (PS Rao Digital Solutions, Billexpress Solutions, Powerfin Technology) facilitated the integration of approximately 36 shell organizations into the payment infrastructure. DGGI has sent a list of eight suspicious intermediary companies to the bank and requested additional information.
