Telegram and I
In 2018, when I was actively managing my personal page on Facebook, I started sharing more professional content. I wrote posts about SEO, some achievements in traffic, sometimes specifically about projects. I also continued to post photos, personal posts, thoughts. Overall, a typical social media page as was customary back then. I never liked writing about myself as a personality. But I knew for sure that people wanted to see my photos and read about my daily life. Back then, I thought about how great it would be if people were interested in my professional side. How to tell more and engage them in my field. But usually, professional posts garnered very low engagement rates.
The terminology generally caused aversion for those who were not familiar with it.
I remember the hour and minute when Telegram announced channels and their capabilities.
I thought. This is what I need. This is exactly what I was thinking about in all its nuances! What a precise hit. It's essentially the same feed of posts, but inherently professional, and everyone understands and expects exactly this kind of content. At the same time, it's almost a social network. And these are not articles, it's very targeted. It's authorial. It's brilliant.
No expectations of photos and personal content. Unlike social networks, which are aimed at building a personal image. A Telegram channel is:
I copied my professional posts (seemingly spent the whole night parsing my Facebook) into the newly created channel. I took the simplest name that came to mind, as I didn't even think it was that important. And now the channel is ready. Some stuff about JS indexing and so on.
The posts were mostly technical or just random from the cases I had at the time.
I ran a channel. It became me. I became it.
Eight years have passed. In 8 years, many things change for a person or nothing changes at all.
But experience definitely appears, understanding of oneself, and with proper self-development — awareness of one's desires, opportunities, and plans.
It's amusing to observe new people entering the niche who think that all media people are building a personal brand and want fame from any iron peeking out of a cheap closet.
What I want to say.
There are those who are simply testing hypotheses. Often these hypotheses leave traces and turn out to be successful tests.
Sometimes the trace of successful tests lingers. And it's nothing more than what I described. It's not building any personal brand. It's not a goal to earn money. It's just a test of a new format. Which transformed into a life professional stage.
Time and place often determine your future. Even if you didn't expect a successful test of this hypothesis.
The article discusses the importance of creating a strong environment and the opportunities it provides. Examples of interaction with successful people and their impact on personal growth are discussed.
