Threats to journalist over reporting on rocket attack in Israel

Times of Israel war correspondent Emanuel Fabian reported, that users of the Polymarket forecasting platform threatened him with reprisals, demanding that he change his report on an Iranian missile strike near Beit Shemesh, Israel, on 10 March. According to the IDF and rescue services, the missile struck an open area near the town. More than $14 million was bet on the event, and users who bet on the lack of a strike demanded that the journalist rewrite the story, indicating that the missile had been intercepted.

In order to put pressure on the journalist, users fabricated screenshots of his correspondence, tried to bribe him through a colleague, threatened to kill him with data about his family and place of residence, and one of them declared his willingness to spend $900 thousand on harassment. Polymarket blocked the accounts of those involved and passed the data to the authorities, the Israeli police are investigating.
