Bangkok. Thailand. Detained 93 people working in iGaming product targeting GEO: VN (Vietnam). The iGaming product itself earned ~$3 million / day.
Thai authorities have cracked down on a major online gambling network targeting the Vietnamese market. During a raid on a property in Bangkok's Makkasan district, 93 Vietnamese nationals were arrested. According to police, the iGaming product, which offers sports betting and online casinos, was earning more than 100 million baht daily, which is £2.3 million.
The raid revealed an active gambling organisation.
Thai authorities carried out the search after police received information about the
unusual activity in a building whose entrance was equipped with an electronic card access system and in which a large number of foreigners were entering/leaving daily.
During the search, police found workers at computers with screens displaying Vietnamese-language gambling websites.
The arrested men told police that they were recruited for the operation and paid THB 30, 000 per month, or about £704, directly into Vietnamese bank accounts. This also suggests there was a team of employees who made sure the platform ran smoothly.
In Vietnam, all forms of online gambling are considered illegal. However, it is also home to one of the largest black markets for online gambling, with operators operating without a licence. Vietnamese players reportedly spend between $5 billion and $10 billion annually on these platforms. This business has proven to be very lucrative for an iGaming product similar to the one that was shut down in Bangkok.
