Brazil bookmakers oppose prediction markets while regulator clarifies its position

A new debate around prediction markets is brewing in Brazil following the announcement that Kalshi, one of the world's largest platforms along with Polymarket, will enter the local market.

On the same day that Kalshi announced its launch in Brazil, the Ministry of Finance's Prizes and Rates Secretariat (SPA) issued a statement clarifying the government's position.
The regulator emphasised that no company is currently officially authorised to operate prediction markets in the country.
However, this does not mean that such platforms are directly prohibited. In fact, forecast markets are now in a legal «grey zone» - legislation does not yet regulate their activities.
