New Zealand is advancing a new online gambling bill, which is now preparing for its third reading. The document pays special attention to strengthening measures to protect players.
A key role in the discussion was played by Lemauga Lydia Sosene, representing the Labour Party. She actively promoted the initiative to include social mechanisms in regulation, including mandatory return of part of the income to society.
One of the main outcomes was the decision to introduce a mandatory levy of 4% on the profits of online casinos. These funds will be directed to public needs and support programs related to minimizing the harm from gambling.
Entain is considering expanding its presence in the New Zealand market while launching a new strategy to mitigate tax burdens in the UK.
New Zealand will begin the online gambling licensing process in July. The Online Casino Gambling Bill is expected to be passed in May.
